Lighting & Control Systems

Proper selection and specification of lighting systems requires attention not only to sources and luminaries, but also to controls. Lighting control assures the right amount of light.

Lighting Control Solutions

A building requires several lighting control groups, consisting of both exterior and interior lighting functions. These control groups provide proper lighting while minimizing energy and maintenance costs. GE’s lighting control experts have worked closely with our customers to design several powerful solutions for automating lighting groups, making lighting operation simple.

Exterior Lighting

Exterior lighting should provide for basic safety and security along with overall lumination. Used properly, it will also re-inforce the buildings architectural appearance, while not wasting energy out of normal business hours.

Parking lot & Public access area's

Need | Parking lots (if applicable) and general public area lighting should be ON when it is dark outside or to project an ambience, and long enough after closing to allow visitors and employees safe exit. Non-security parking lot lights should be OFF to save energy when the building is closed and employees are not present.

Solution | Control site lighting using an outdoor photosensor and controller with a user-selectable egress delay. Input from a time clock, manual switch or security system alerts the controller whether the store is occupied or not. After closing, parking lot lighting will stay ON for a predetermined delay (15 minutes to 2 hours), then go OFF.

Signage

Need | Building signage is important to promote the firms, organisation present inside. At the start of days operations, signage should be turned ON at twilight and during very cloudy or inclement weather. This use of signage improves overall visibility. Signage does not need an egress delay, but should be turned OFF at off-peak, low volume periods.

Solution | Another channel on the photocell controller may be used to control signage. Input from HVAC controls, a timeclock or simply a manual switch can turn the lights OFF. Without any input, the signage goes off with the parking lot lights.

Exterior Security Lighting

Need | Security lighting should be ON whenever it is dark outside

Solution | Turn on security lighting using the outdoor photosensor. Users may define the light level (6 fc recommended). The photocontroller turns lights assigned to the security group ON at dusk and OFF at dawn, independent of any occupants.

Interior Lighting

Interior lighting is a basic requirement of building, while offering endless possibilities for creating an attractive and compelling environment. At the same time, interior lighting can easily be controlled to save both energy and maintenance. GE’s systems allow you to group lighting loads by channel on the lighting control panel, and control these groups using input from a manual switch, time clock or HVAC system (A time clock is not necessary for a complete automated system).
